The amateur framing is the honest one and it is doing more work than the economics arguments usually do. Most of the anxiety about AI and music comes from people who never play, so creation is abstract to them. Once you have been in the room where a jam falls apart and gets rebuilt, the machine question gets less scary and more specific. Good post, and nice that Will was on drums.

From the attendee comments at our Creative Frontiers Summit two weeks ago and in my observation of the music industry over the last year, it seems to me that the main source of opposition to the AI music companies is their use of artists' work in training the AI models without any licensing.
The industry seems to be quickly moving to a business model in which training music is licensed. And the much lower "drum beat" of opposition against AI assisted music creation seems to be losing steam.
